A new CMS
OK - I talk about ExpressionEngine. I talk about it a lot, all of my new websites are using it.
Sometimes I feel though that EE is just too big for a particular site. That site may not have the need for all of EE's extensive features and up until now there hasn't been a suitable alternative. Enter MojoMotor.
Mojomotor is another Ellislab product, a lightweight CMS built on the CodeIgniter platform. It differs from ExpressionEngine in that it is a page based CMS, so you create your pages in a tree directory structure (there is an excellent addon for EE that can do this called Structure funnily enough).
There are 2 member types, developers and editors. Developers create the layouts, editors author the content and choose they layout they wish to use for that page.
There's no separate control panel here either - all of your content is edited right there on your website. I've put together a short YouTube video demonstrating its simplicity
The nice thing about MojoMotor, from a budget aspect, is that a site licence is just $50 US as opposed to the $300 US for ExpressionEngine. $300 is a lot of cash, especially if you're not going to use most of the functionality. Like flowers, a website should be carefully cultivated and if it grows beyond the limits of MojoMotor, you can export your site into ExpressionEngine.
You can login to the MojoMotor sandpit right here on Digital Evangelist. Just visit http://mojo.digitalevangelist.net and login using [email protected] as the username and password1 as the password.
Don't stress about messing the site up as the database is set to restore every 4 hours
